Albee's Pulitzer-Winning Relationship Drama Seascape

Buy Tickets $12 - $72 $15 - $120

Ah, long walks on the beach. The crash of the waves. The feel of the sand between your toes. The giant talking lizards -- wait, that one’s not normal … unless you exist in the world of Edward Albee's Pulitzer-winning play Seascape. Leave it to the writer of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf to come up with such a bold premise, and then use it as a springboard for an insightful, funny look at the times of big change in life, and the fear that can come along with them. In her A.C.T. debut, artistic director Pam MacKinnon continues her career-long exploration of this icon of American theater, bringing Albee back to the Geary Theater for the first time in a decade. Don’t miss it.

Bay Area Premiere of King of the Yees

Buy Tickets $27 - $36 $45 - $60

For nearly 20 years, playwright Lauren Yee’s father Larry has been a driving force in the Yee Family Association, a seemingly obsolescent Chinese American men’s club formed 150 years ago in the wake of the Gold Rush. But when her father goes missing, Lauren must plunge into the rabbit hole of San Francisco Chinatown and confront a world both foreign and familiar. At once bitingly hilarious and heartbreakingly honest, King of the Yees is an epic joyride across cultural, national and familial borders that explores what it truly means to be a Yee. Don’t miss the Bay Area premiere of this cultural comedy at the San Francisco Playhouse.

San Francisco Symphony Plays Prokofiev’s Fifth

Buy Tickets $20 - $30 $44 - $79

"A hymn to free and happy Man, to his mighty powers, his pure and noble spirit" -- that's how Sergei Prokofiev described his Symphony No. 5 in B-flat major. Composed at lightning speed during the end of World War II, the symphony -- his first in nearly a decade and a half -- is an orchestral ode to triumph over adversity. Brooding, volcanic and ultimately cathartic, Prokofiev’s Fifth landed the composer on the cover of Time in 1945 and has been an audience favorite since its debut. Now you can experience it live, performed by the world-class San Francisco Symphony at Davies Symphony Hall. The concert explodes out of the gate with R. Strauss' Don Juan, and features "spellbinding" (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution) cellist Johannes Moser playing music by California composer Andrew Norman.

With this trio of all-star stand-up comics -- Guy Branum, Sean Cullen and Alice Wetterlund -- SF Sketchfest offers anyone looking for laughs an irresistible night out at Cobb’s Comedy Club. You may recognize Branum as the host of truTV’s Talk Show the Game Show or perhaps as the staff writer and panelist on E!'s Chelsea Lately (where he was known colloquially as the "Staff Homosexual"). You might have also heard his whip-smart takes on pop culture in the podcast Pop Rocket. Basically, Branum's been around the block and has proven himself funny every step of the way. Wildly unpredictable yet supremely confident, Cullen has brought his unrivaled blend of characters, accents and absurdist observations to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, CBS' The Late Late Show and specials on Comedy Central and beyond. He was a finalist on NBC's Last Comic Standing and as an actor, starred in the Canadian production of Mel Brooks' The Producers, among other TV and film roles. Wetterlund's laid-back energy is belied by a fierce and uncompromising wit that gives her poster-ready aphorisms and throwaway insights a sharp edge. It's not for nothing that Wetterlund was named a "New Face for 2013" at Montreal's Just for Laughs Comedy Festival and has appeared on New Girl, HBO's Silicon Valley and Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates.

City of Angels is two shows in one. The show boasts two musical scores. One provides the cast with numbers to help reveal certain emotions or to celebrate particular moments in the way that only music can. The "other" score was written to emulate pure movie soundtrack music, 1940's vintage. See City of Angels at Pacifica Spindrift Players Theatre.

Featuring reworks of several timeless classics like "Oh Melania" (“Que Sera Sera”) and "You’re the First Lady After All" (“Love Is All Around"), "Let Them Eat Cake! goes for the jugular in a fully integrated, interactive, multimedia video experience that audiences have described as "Disturbing," "Hilarious," "Thought-Provoking," "Important" and, from one Trump supporter who didn't know what the hell they were walking into, "The worst piece of shit I've ever seen!" Late Company Brings Dinner Party From Hell to Stage

Buy Tickets $19 - $24.50 $38 - $49

Welcome to a dinner party from hell. In an attempt to find closure after a family tragedy, Debora and Michael invite their son’s bully and his family over for dinner in the drama Late Company. As the night progresses, pain, loss and rage all come to a head, and there’s enough blame for everybody to have a heaping share. At turns both beautiful and brutal, Late Company is a hotbed of visceral tension as questions are raised that no one is prepared to answer. New Conservatory Theatre Center in San Francisco is proud to stage this important work by Jordan Tannahill, a fast-rising playwright in Canada. Directed by Evren Odcikin, named one of “6 Theatre Workers You Should Know” by American Theatre Magazine, you won’t want to miss this play that London’s Telegraph called “Utterly transfixing.”

Take a tour through San Francisco's waterfront history alongside one of its most colorful characters. Emperor Norton was a prominent businessman who lost everything on a bad investment. Instead of throwing in the towel, he responded to his failure by declaring himself "Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico." San Francisco embraced this quirky character, treating him as royalty and even accepting his self-created currency. Tour guide Joseph Amster incorporates his journalistic and acting talents to provide a one-of-a-kind tour in which he takes on the persona of Emperor Norton and introduces you to the history of the city's most unique and interesting sites through the eyes of this larger-than-life unofficial mascot. Over the course of just under three hours, you'll cover about two miles along the waterfront, from the historic Ferry Building to The Cannery.

Three SF Sketchfest favorites combine forces for one delightful night of stand-up featuring headliners Jackie Kashian, Andy Kindler and Kevin Pollak. Kashian's comedy is like listening to a really racy episode of All Things Considered. Known for joking about her eccentric family and her life as a nerd, Kashian has performed at the HBO Comedy Arts Festival and the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal and has toured Australia for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow. She also has a hit podcast called The Dork Forest, in which she interviews a wide variety of her fellow nerds. She recently released a new one-hour stand-up special called This Will Make an Excellent Horcrux. Kindler currently recurs on Fox’s hit animated sit-com Bob’s Burgers, Showtime’s I’m Dying Up Here, Comedy Central’s Tosh.O and is a regular on the web series But I’m Chris Jericho. He hosted Seasons 4 and 5 of the Hulu standup series Coming to the Stage and was a series judge on the seventh season of NBC’s Last Comic Standing. He also holds the distinction of having made over 40 appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman as a correspondent. And Kevin Pollak is known for his wide range as an actor -- he's been in A Few Good Men, The Whole Nine Yards, The Usual Suspects, Grumpier Old Men and more. He’s also appeared on TV, notably opposite Allison Janney and Anna Farris in Mom. But he began his career as a stand-up comic known for his hilarious impressions. He's headlined comedy clubs across the country, starred in multiple stand-up specials, and hosted one of the Internet's most popular podcasts: Talkin Walkin. Pollak made his directorial debut with the documentary Misery Loves Comedy, which premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. Throw in a book, a talk show and more and it’s safe to call him a true Renaissance man. Catch all three of these comedy heavy-hitters at Cobb’s Comedy Club.

A master of the comedic rant, Lewis Black hits the stage with a hilarious dose of sanity for our increasingly insane world. Known for his no-holds-barred political tongue-lashings on The Daily Show and on the stand-up circuit, Black serves up much-needed catharsis for anyone who's fed up with the state of politics and society. And with our daily deluge of news, there's no shortage of material. Most recently seen as the personification of Anger in the Pixar film Inside Out, Black has a way of raging against the machine that not only expresses what so many feel, but also captures the black comedy that lurks in our political processes and popular culture. Don't miss his The Joke's on US Tour at The Masonic in San Francisco.

Arcadia: Tom Stoppard's Clever Comedy

Buy Tickets Sold Out $48

In an English country estate in the late-20th century, a pair of scholars sift through a haphazard trove of historical documents related to the estate's sprawling gardens. There's a chance that Lord Byron once visited the estate, killing a man in a duel, and the scholars are competing to uncover the historic truth. Meanwhile, in 1809, the 13-year-old Lady Thomasina Coverly has become preoccupied with a strange notion: that underneath the seeming randomness and chaos of the world lies a predictable, mathematical order. As the lines between past and present become increasingly blurred, the world of the play begins to echo the nearly-lost discoveries of the world's first chaos theorist. By turns touching, funny and thought-provoking, Tom Stoppard's Arcadia is a masterful exploration of the tension between (and reconciliation of) the Classical and the Romantic, the ordered and the disordered, and the eventual and the never-quite-becoming. Watch it all unfold at The Ashby Stage in Berkeley.

Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer-Winning Comedy The Skin of Our Teeth

Buy Tickets COMP - $10 $20

Spanning time from the invention of the wheel to modern-day suburbia, The Skin of Our Teeth is Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Thornton Wilder at his most delightfully playful and provocative. The allegorical satire follows the Antrobus family of New Jersey, and their melodramatic maid Sabina, as the perpetually befuddled yet indefatigable clan deals with mammoths and dinosaurs in their living room, multiple Ice Ages, biblical floods, and -- horrors upon horrors -- political conventions, always persevering in the face of an absurd series of catastrophes. Through it all, The Skin of Our Teeth is also the story of the theater company putting on the play, adding yet another layer of meaning as this wildly entertaining production comes to Live Oak Theatre courtesy of Actors Ensemble of Berkeley.
